Children,
as well as adults, experience grief over the loss of a loved one.
Realizing that they are not alone, children and adults can work
through their feelings and express their emotions when provided
with a supportive environment. The programs of The
Oak Tree Corner provide this environment by encouraging
the sharing of feelings and information to facilitate the process
of healing.
This
program serves young people between 3 and 18 years old in age-specific
groups designed to encourage peer support. Families gather twice
a month beginning with a pizza dinner from 6:00 - 6:30. From 6:30
- 7:30 children meet in groups with trained adult volunteers.
Parents and guardians meet in their own group. At 7:30, all participants
gather for a brief closing cermomy.
The
Oak Tree Corner
offers open-ended admission. Families begin and end according
to their own personal needs. They may start one week or one year
after their loss. Meetings are held year round with a summer recess
in July and August. A typical family comes to The
Oak Tree Corner
for 12 to 18 months.
